Red Châteauneuf du Pape

Main production of the famous AOC, the red wine of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the true standard of the wines of the Rhone Valley. This AOC and its famous terroirs of rolled pebbles produces intense red wines with powerful aromas, combining finesse, structure and complexity, all three characterizing what a grand cru should be.

The AOC produces a red wine essentially built around rich aromas of ripe fruit, truffles, mushrooms and undergrowth. In addition to these beautiful aromas, a red wine from Châteauneuf du Pape is also spicy, wild and vegetal notes from the Provençal scrubland. The association of the 8 grape varieties used to vinify this red wine therefore gives it its own identity. We find, in the list of grape varieties authorized by the AOC Châteauneuf du Pape, Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse and Terret. It should be noted that one of the particularities of the red wines of this AOC is that they can be made from a mixture of the 13 grape varieties authorized for the wines of Châteauneuf du Pape, i.e. red grape varieties and white grape varieties vinified together.

Grenache Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Châteauneuf du Pape is vigorous and fertile. It brings freshness, roundness and pronounced fruity aromas. Mourvèdre adapts perfectly to dry and sunny climates. Its strong antioxidant power makes it valuable for structuring the blends of AOC red wines. Syrah brings to Châteauneuf du Pape an important tannic structure, a deep violet color and aromas of red and black fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant) and pepper. The 4th main grape variety in the blends of AOC red wines, Cinsault, underlines their sweetness, their delicacy and their suppleness.
