2020, a peaceful vintage, full of roundness and balance.

"The dry, hot summer of 2019 required a rainy winter to allow water supplies to replenish. This was the case from October to December 2019 with a cumulative rainfall of 400 to 500 mm depending on the sector, then with a particularly wet end of spring. The winter temperatures were quite mild which led to a very early bud break, 12 days ahead of 2019. If on March 25 a morning frost caused some damage on rare plots, the spring remained very sweet, confirming the great early vintage with a flowering in mid-May.                                                   The rains are almost absent from mid-June to early August, until several rainy episodes prevent any risk of water stress. The summer was hot but not hot: only 3 days out of 5 at more than 30°C between June and September, with a peak around August 1 at more than 40°C. Veraison starts at the end of July and is very fast.

The first patches of white are harvested in the third week of August and those of Syrah in early September. Around the 20th of September some rains (40 to 60 mm) delayed the harvest sites, slowing down the accumulation of sugars but accelerating the phenolic maturation of the Grenache and Mourvèdre. The harvest continued serenely until mid-October, with no meteorological episode interrupting them, the winemakers were able to harvest each of their plots at the optimum of their maturity.

The 2020 vintage is characterized by beautiful acidity and a lot of elegance for white wines. On the nose, they are marked by citrus fruits and the freshness of the fruit. The mouth combines aromatic intensity and beautiful length. The reds have less intense colors than in 2019, but also less alcohol, more freshness, purity of fruit and tannic finesse. The Syrah exudes blackberry, notes of white pepper and menthol, while the Grenache, bring aromas of fresh raspberry, garrigue or ginger depending on the terroir from which they come. The 2020 reds have an elegant flexibility that makes them particularly suitable to be appreciated in their youth, without altering their guard potential. 2020 is definitely a vintage in balance, combining freshness and greed.

As if the skies had wanted to console us with the turpitudes linked to the Covid-19 crisis, the 2020 vintage is the fruit of a peaceful vegetative year and a harmonious development of the grapes. It is therefore soothed that the winemakers were able to harvest and vinify Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which are already brilliant at the tasting."
